Loss of bladder control, also called urinary incontinence is a very common condition, affecting between one and two million Canadians of all ages. There are several possible reasons why a person may become incontinent, but the most important thing to remember is that incontinence is not a disease. It is a symptom of an underlying problem, and should be discussed with your doctor as soon as possible.

Many people try to hide their loss of bladder control and avoid talking about it. They may feel embarrassed and become resigned to hopelessness with their condition. This attitude is changing. Loss of bladder control or urinary incontinence is becoming easier to talk about. Breakthroughs in research and health education have created better community awareness of this condition and its treatment.

If you find that you tend to leak urine, or lose control of your bladder completely, you may have what is called urinary incontinence. This condition affects people of all ages and genders, but tends to be more common in people over age 60. Women are twice as likely as men to have this condition. Incontinence can be treated with special exercises, medication and, in some cases, surgery. While these treatments are in progress, or in cases where the incontinence cannot be cured, absorbent products can be worn to indiscreetly absorb urine.

Absorbent products-while waiting for one of the above therapies to cure your incontinence (or if the incontinence cannot be cured), you may use products that are worn inside your underwear to discreetly absorb any leaded urine. These allow you to participate in your regular activities without worry.
